Cocoa Beach Area Diving

Though Cocoa Beach is a Mecca for Surfing and the beaches...Diving is mediocre at best. There are reefs located about 20 miles off shore (80 to 130 ft) and conditions vary widely. There are no commercial dive charters to these areas.

However, we are nested between super fresh water springs and rivers to our north and the spectacular reefs to our south from Jupiter to the Keys. Peppered with this are the aquarium dives of Marineland and Disney. Many of these dives are a simple day trip or maybe a weekend jaunt as in the case of the Gainesville area springs or the Keys. In the summer, the beaches about an hour  below Cocoa Beach become very appealing. Winter spring and fall beach diving is very unpredictable.

Though diving is do able 12 months any where in Florida, the oceans are best in the summer and springs best in winter.

Ocean water temps in the summer are in the low to mid 80's, winter around 70 in south Florida and low 60's further north. The springs stay at 72 year round.

September and October are the peak hurricane season months and though a storm may be 500 to 1000 miles away in the Atlantic...it will kick up monstrous ground swells that will effect coastal diving conditions adversely.
